Solar Bollards Specified by Lighting Architect for “Walking Figure” Sculpture, Laverton, VIC
HIGHLUX worked with a lighting designer to work out the most cost-effective option for lighting the public art sculpture "Walking Figure" by local Melbourne artist Dean Bowen (2010).

Architecturally Specified Solar Bollards for Public Sculpture
The lighting designer had proposed 4x Solar Bollards at ~2m installed height installed at each of the corners of the sculpture. Solar Bollards would not necesarily be our first recommendation for this application, so, while the lighting designer ran the data through modelling to determine expected illumination of the sculpture with the solar bollards, we ran through other options with Ace Energy.
The overhead wires ruled out an overhead lighting option, and the height and shape of the sculpture, as well as the position of the sculpture on the median strip relative to the road, meant up-lighting couldn't work. We quickly agreed Solar Bollards were the best fit for the job!
The asymmetric LED arrangement directing light onto the sculpture rather than onto the road, the lumen output met the specifications for the outdoor lighting, the ability to select a custom height for the bollards, and the soft, natural white light as preferred for the installations position alongside vehicle traffic.
